School-based apprenticeships and traineeships
School-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs) allow high school students to work for an employer, train towards a recognised qualification, and complete their secondary school studies. They are available across a wide range of fields, from automotive to business; radio broadcasting to watchmaking. SATs provide students with:
- the chance to work towards an Overall Position score
- qualifications or skills that are recognised Australia-wide, and that can count towards the Queensland Certificate of Education hands-on experience in a workplace
- paid work
- confidence and contacts to move from school to work or further study.
More than 45 000 young people have experienced the benefits of SATs since the program first started in Queensland over 10 years ago. The Queensland Government recognises the benefits of SATs for our young people and is aiming to double the number of school-based apprentices and trainees in Queensland over the coming years.
