Training organisations' responsibilities
Every school-based apprentice or trainee must have supervising registered training organisation (SRTO).
Prior to registration of a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship, the nominated training organisation must agree to be the SRTO for the apprenticeship/traineeship.
SRTOs have a number of roles and responsibilities under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) and the Vocational Education, Training and Employment (VETE) Act 2000 to ensure quality training is delivered to school-based apprentices and trainees.
SRTOs are responsible for:
-
providing induction information on the rights and responsibilities of the employer and the school-based apprentice or trainee under the training contract
-
ensuring the employer has the capacity to train the school-based apprentice or trainee by conducting an employer resource assessment
-
working with the employer and the school-based apprentice or trainee to provide the facilities, services, supervision and training required under the training plan
-
negotiating and developing a training plan including an Education, Training and Employment Schedule (ETES) with the employer and school-based apprentice or trainee, and the school
-
giving the school-based apprentice or trainee and the employer a copy of the signed training plan
-
giving the school-based apprentice or trainee a training record
-
ensuring the training as agreed in the training plan is delivered to the school-based apprentice or trainee
-
assisting the school-based apprentice or trainee and the employer to make sure the training is completed on schedule
-
requiring the school-based apprentice or trainee to produce the training record so it can be updated
-
regularly making contact to monitor the student's progress
-
delivering additional learning support, if required
-
advising on the costs of training
-
issuing the nationally-recognised qualification (where eligible or authorised by the Training and Employment Recognition Council).
