Role of schools
Schools play an integral role in assisting students to make the transition to employment.
Schools that support student opportunities with school-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs) are providing their students with an effective platform for making that transition to work.
Throughout a SAT and senior studies, schools are responsible for monitoring progress.
Education Queensland has developed a specific policy and procedure for state schools' role in school-based apprenticeships and traineeships.
Schools play an important role in:
-
providing approval for students to participate in a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship (SAT)
-
ensuring the SAT forms an appropriate component of an overall school program
-
co-signing the training plan
-
assisting students with the process for establishing a SAT
-
helping eligible students with travel and accommodation support funding. For state schools see Education Queensland's processes for providing travel and accommodation assistance for school-based apprentices and trainees. See also Education Queensland's processes for providing support for school-based apprentices and trainees with special needs
-
exercising a duty of care to students
-
ongoing monitoring and supports to help students meet their school and training commitment
