Facts for school leavers
Some students complete their traineeships while at school. However, many will still be in the middle of their training when they finish school. For apprenticeships and some traineeships, the student will be required to convert to full-time or part-time when they finish school, to allow them to complete the qualification.
Once students convert to full-time or part-time arrangements, normal award wages and conditions apply. The Amendment of school-based training contract form [PDF 112kb] should be completed to notify the department of the change to full-time or part-time.
SATs who complete school and are awaiting QCE
Note to SATs who are completing Year 12 in 2011 and are expected to receive their QCE in December 2011: You will receive a letter advising of the number of QCE credit points you are entitled to for the on-the-job component of your apprenticeship. These credits are allocated by the Queensland Studies Authority and calculated by the Department of Education and Training (DET) based on the number of days an apprentice is required to work. If you receive your letter and disagree with the calculated number of days you should have worked, you will need to submit a Review of Days Worked application form to your nearest district office [PDF 326kb].
