Funding assistance is available to help meet some of the costs associated with apprenticeships or traineeships.

What funding is available?

Travel and Accommodation assistance

This information is not applicable to school-based apprentices and trainees - please contact your school to discuss travel and accommodation subsidies.

The Department of Education and Training (DET) provides assistance to apprentices and trainees who are required to travel to and from their usual place of residence to attend training with the nearest training organisation able to deliver the training program. All eligibility criteria must be met to qualify for these subsidies. Eligible apprentices and trainees may receive assistance for their travel to and from required training and, where training is undertaken on a block release basis, for a daily accommodation subsidy during that training. Further details can be found on the travel and accommodation application form (PDF, 149 KB).

Please note apprentices or trainees who are experiencing financial difficulties when attending off-the-job training with their training organisation and would like to claim travel and/or accommodation subsidy, may do so in advance. All eligibility criteria must be met and applications made using the advance claim form (PDF, 151 KB).

Some apprentices and trainees may also be eligible for funding for air travel. To qualify they must meet the following criteria:

Further details can be found on the application for air travel form (PDF, 110 KB).

Funding assistance for apprentices and trainees whose training contracts are cancelled

Apprentices and trainees whose training contracts are cancelled may be supported financially to attend a training organisation to assist them to re-enter a training contract. The apprentice or trainee must attend a training organisation with a current User Choice contract. All criteria must be met to be eligible for funding. Please note this funding is not available for school-based apprenticeships and traineeships. Further details can be found on the application form (PDF, 107 KB).
